Johan was born in Stockholm, Sweden. He studied piano and composition at the Royal Academy of Music and at the Sibelius-Academy in Helsinki, Finland. Johan, in his capacity as a pianist, has performed with the majority of Sweden’s orchestras, and has toured in Europe, the USA and South America. In 2000, he was appointed Swedish Radio’s artist in residence, a post which led to a large number of recordings and live broadcasts, heard throughout Europe. As a composer, Johan has written chamber music, orchestral music, songs and operas, which have been performed both in Sweden and internationally in concert houses and at festivals. The Deadly Sins, a suite of seven tangos for piano trio, has been performed around forty times by different ensembles in Sweden, Norway, Italy, Russia, Japan and elsewhere, and has been broadcast by Swedish Radio. Johan has made extensive use of the tango style, and was notably commissioned to write a tango-influenced piano concerto, premiered by Musica Vitae with Johan himself at the piano. In 2009, Swedish Radio commissioned the song cycle Lady Macbeth for mezzo-soprano Katarina Karnéus, who, with pianist Matti Hirvonen, gave the premiere at Folkoperan in Stockholm as part of the Swedish Sopranos recital series. The same year, Johan was appointed festival composer at Strängnäs Summer Music, where his commissioned work for cello and piano, To be, was premiered. The clarinet concerto Night Awake, was premiered by Kristian Möller and KammarensembleN in 2010. In the same year, Uppsala University commissioned the orchestral work Amygdala, which has since been performed in Sweden, Italy and Spain.

Biography

We are the Stockholm Soloists chamber orchestra our aim is to highlight our capital city of Stockholm as a city with modern, innovative and open environment with a focus on issues related to social justice, gender equality, democracy and the environment thru means of classical music. We are unusual because we are a creative and management cooperative with a strong social agenda in our work. In our view - classical chamber music is here for all in our city of Stockholm. Our musicians are all entrepreneurs and self-employed and through cooperation we jointly take responsibility for the project and create a space for new possibilities for all of us. Stockholm Soloists Chamber Orchestra brings together leading musicians – such as Christian Svarfvar, Jan Stigmer, Jonas Lindgård, Tomas Lundström, Marc Power, and others. We are 15 to 20 musicians, depending on the program and the occasion. Our soloists have already established themselves in Sweden both as soloists and ensemble musicians. Here, there is an additional opportunity for them to develop themselves, using individual support and cooperation with each other on a highest possible artistic level, performing very sophisticated musical pieces with focus on the different instruments. Also, each musician will be able to play as a soloist in the ensemble. The musicians of Stockholm Soloists have great influence on the repertoire, sets, and artistic creation. Therefore, it is important for us to introduce us to a wider audience by sometimes moving  from the usual concert venues. During 2013-2014, it will perform the concert series "Our Stockholm" where they will perform at various locations in Stockholm's beautiful natural surroundings and be closer to the audience. Also, during the summer of 2013 the orchestra makes its first international tour to Moscow and performs at the summer festival "World Chamber Orchestras." Our aim is to spread classical music at a high artistic level, but easier accessible for everyone.

“Stockholm’s Soloists is an orchestra for all Stockholm residents without exemptions or preferences” says Maria Eklund, the orchestra’s creative director, conductor and founder.

Musik På Slottet, The Venue

The Royal Palace of Stockholm is His Majesty The King's official residence and is also the setting for most of the monarchy's official receptions. The palace is a daily place of work for The King and Queen as well as for the various departments that make up the Royal Court. This combination of royal residence, workplace and culture-historical monument open year round to visitors makes the Royal Palace of Stockholm unique amongst Europe's royal residences.

The palace is built in baroque style by the architect Nicodemus Tessin and is formed as a Roman palace. The palace has more than 600 rooms divided between seven floors with a state apartment facing the city and smaller living rooms facing the inner courtyard.
The palace contains many interesting things to see. In addition to the Royal Apartments there are three museums steeped in regal history: the Treasury with the regalia, the Tre Kronor Museum that portrays the palaces medieval history and Gustav III's Museum of Antiquities. See respective tourist destination at the palace in the left-hand menu for more information.
